In Memoriam: Environment Contributing Editor Ooi Giok Ling

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Environment Contributing Editor Ooi Giok Ling. Dr. Ooi was a professor at the National Institute of Education at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and President of the Southeast Asian Geography Association. Previously, Dr. Ooi served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies in the School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore and as Director of the Research Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singapore. Dr. Ooi was an accomplished scholar who make significant contributions to the field of urban and environmental studies. Her works include her 2005 book “Sustainability and Cities: Concept and Assessment” and 2009's “World Cities: Achieving Livability and Vibrancy,” which she co-edited.

Dr. Ooi was a valued member of Environment's editorial staff, having served on the magazine as a Contributing Editor since 2005. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for sustainability in urban environments and generosity of spirit made her an indispensable contributor to the magazine's mission, and she will be missed greatly.
