Winter Is Still Harsh in the Arctic

Much has been written about the changing Arctic, and rightly so. It is warming more rapidly than the global average, sea ice is retreating at an astonishing pace, and new phenomena are being observed so regularly that they scarcely qualify as news. Yet even with so much attention drawn to these events, we should not forget the basics of the Arctic winter.
